Believe it or not! Exchanging intimate messages with strangers on WhatsApp has led to a rise in divorce rates in Italy, claims a leading Italian lawyer.
Gian Ettore Gassani, president of the Italian Association of Matrimonial Lawyers, said forty percent of divorce cases that cited adultery have used WhatsApp messages swapped by unfaithful spouses and their lovers as evidence.
He further said, social media has boosted betrayal in Italy by making it easier, first through texting, then Facebook, and now WhatsApp, which is being used widely and has encouraged the return of the Latin lover.
WhatsApp made it easy for the lovers to exchange intimate photos of themselves and the adulators have no issues in maintaining three or four relationships, he added, calling it dynamite.
In Italy, WhatsApp is the most popular messaging service. A 2012 survey found that 88% of the instant messaging market was captured by it.
Gassani said, the family that has been the cornerstone of society for years has came under severe attack with WhatsApp proving to be the final straw.
