Worried about raising your kid?
Turn to your own mother for some conventional wisdom.
1. Be a supermom
Our mothers raised us in times when child counselling, parenting classes, self-help books on raising kids and terms like work-life balance weren’t part of their vocabulary. Busy though they were, they managed to be supermoms even then, without having heard of the term.. There’s nothing better than conventional wisdom when it comes to raising your kids. And who can help you better than your own mother?
2. Strike a balance
Learn from your mother how to strike a balance between your professional and personal life. Her rigorous work ethic has always inspired their children to put their best foot forward.
3. Learn to let go
The most important thing about mother is the ability to let go. All mothers worry; it’s in our nature to do so, but our children have to lead their lives, make mistakes, learn (or sometimes not) from those mistakes and move on.
4. Sayings of mother still hold true
Their is no material substitute for quality time: It’s understandable that you can’t devote as much time to your child as your mother did to you on a daily basis. Yet, making up for it with toys, presents and pocket money is not the wisest thing to do. Try to spend at least an hour a day with your kid alone, without the distractions of television and technology.
5. Play with your child
All work and no play make for a dull child: Instead of trying to raise a high achiever through myriad classes and tuitions, let your child enjoy the simple pleasures of fresh air and team games. Let them play outdoors a few hours after school everyday.
