Is your bookshelf crammed with heavy books. Time to switch on to an E-reader. The E-ink display on these devices look and read just like print on paper and the matte screens reflect light like ordinary paper and have no glare, and the crisp, print-like text is easy on the eyes just like a book.
With several weeks of battery life, these e-readers are probably the only gadgets that don’t give a battery anxiety. A single charge should be enough for your long vacation.
The leading e-reader brands – Amazon Kindle and Kobo – arrived in India last year, and you can find these at Croma stores and online.
There are three Kindle variants available – Kindle, Kindle PaperWhite, and Kindle PaperWhite 3G. All the three variants have 2GB storage which can hold over 1000 books.
Kindle has reading apps for Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Windows, and Mac.
Kobo, is a recent entrant in the space, with less mindshare in India. The company also has three variants. The three variants- Kobo Touch, Kobo Glo, and Kobo Aura HD- also differ in resolution, something which is consistent across the Kindle family. While the Touch has an 800 x 600 display, Glo has 1024×768, the Aura HD tops the chart with a 6.8″ 1440 x 1080 display. Just like Kindle, Kobo also has reading apps for iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Mac, and PC.
“With e-readers you can avoid the hassle of carrying a zillion books and have the advantage of buying a book instantly, usually cheaper.”
