The process is expected to come to an end by January 28, 2014. Up till now the Akash tablet was being manufactured by Datawind, but new companies are expected to take part in the bidding. The price of the current iteration of Akash (or Akash 4) might be higher than Rs. 2,500 as the Government has already made it clear that they will not be waiving off custom duties on the components that will be imported for this tablet.
